It is more common among alcoholic women (and women in general) than men.
The craving for alcohol during abstinence, the pain of withdrawal, and the high rate of relapse are due to the brain's adaptation to and dependence on the changes in its own chemistry caused by long term use of alcohol. I really liked the description on page 126, “The cold rain dripped through my hair and then trickled across my cheeks like freshwater tears. It helped to clear my head. I blinked the water from my eyes, staring blankly across the road.” This quote just refreshed me. The way the “cold” rain dripped through her hair, then “trickled” down her cheeks like the pain being washed away, the relief that you are omitting the anger, the fear, the sadness, safely. Tears are safe, tears are perfect. Another quote popped out at me, on page 127, “Who would want to ride a motorcycle here? It would be like taking a sixty mile per hour bath.” I just thought it was humorous and light unlike the rest of the book. Wow really, it made me smile. I stopped and thought about if literally, haha it sounded really fun. Oh where my imagination takes me… Also, on page 129, a quote kind of had me stumped and I reread it a few times. “Inspiration hit like a bolt of lightning-not unreasonable, considering the storm.” Ok, so first I thought the storm could be a potential problem or conflict, then I thought the so the lightning bolt is reasonable, which the bolt is inspiration. Lightning bolts are powerful, bright, and damaging positively (electricity) and negatively (property, deaths). So in conclusion I concluded that the inspiration opportunity came up quickly and as powerful as a lightning bolt when it was needed the most, during a problem. Why did it take so long to break that down? I have no idea.

New Moon Thoughts

When Bella described her dreams on page 122 and 123, I got really nervous for her. If she keeps having these horrible repetitive dreams she needs a ton of help, even a friend for heavens sake, no not even that just a person to talk to or someone who will listen. Her dreams talk a lot about nothing, she’s pretty much worrying that her life is nothing anymore. She was looking for something the whole dream, but all she found was a bunch of nothing. Screaming, she says is how she wakes, someone help her!!! I guess you could say this book is like a diary, she is really emotional but no to anyone it seems like besides the book. She talks about how she wished she could feel numb again…I just am starting to feel bad. I’m pretty sure she’s talking about feeling numbly in love, with no problems, when Edward was around. I kind of got the shivers typing Edward’s name again, feels weird because he’s gone. Another example of how depressed and emotionally shook Bella is…page 124, “But what if this hole never got any better? If the raw edges never healed? If the damage was permanent and irreversible?” The answer is just move on. As much as it hurts things will get better, everything will go up from here because you’ve felt so low. But thinking about it, there are people out there that feel this way. Some people have illnesses that won’t allow themselves to forget which is such a battle. What would happen if NOTHING got better?

Yeah, again.

The commentary still is so awkward with Bella and pretty much everyone…just for an example even though this was a while ago, on page 107, “Where do you want to eat?” Jess asked. “I don’t care.” “Okay.” …Like how awkward is that… this paragraph also stood out on page 111, “it was his voice-I was exceptionally careful not to think his name and I was surprised that the sound of it did not knock me to my knees, did not curl me onto the pavement in a torture of loss. But there was no pain, none at all. I just thought it was a little extreme… “…did not knock me to my knees…” but I guess love is that powerful. Bella is so lost and I don’t know the word, her personality is dull? Her life’s tasteless? On page 115, Bella is so reserved she doesn’t even give Jess the benefit of the doubt to tell her even a little bit of what’s going on in her life like a real friend should. “You are so odd, Bella Swan. I feel like I don’t know who you are.” Jess said. “Sorry” is all Bella said…that’s all she could say…wow. I’m screaming in my head BELLA JUST TELL HER YOUR HAVING ISSUES AND ARE EMOTIONALLY DETACHED AND NEED PROFESSIONAL HELP. Just do something good for yourself and move…listen to your DAD! I actually am still so frustrated…all of my posts are going to be just bratty I think sorry everyone (if anyone is reading this).

Thoughts and Feelings

Bella’s annoying now. She really frustrates me and how painful a couple of scenes have been with her and Jessica. Since she was pretty much a mute for the past couple of months she didn’t talk to one then all of a sudden talked to Jessica out of the blue. It’s just really awkward. Bella’s mind is only on one channel, and that’s Edward Live (sweet joke Maggie), since he wasn’t there her mind was like mush…(real annoying)…on page 111 it really amazed me how clear things changed as she claims she heard Edwards voice, “In the instant that I heard his voice, everything was very clear. Like my head had suddenly surfaced out of some dark pool. I was more aware of everything-sight, sound, the feel of the cold air that I hadn’t noticed was blowing sharply against my face , the smells comig from the open bar” (Meyer). I took a step back and just thought, wow a guy can really do this to a person? I guess Edward just knows how to make everything better in Bella’s eyes. He’s like a drug to her, when he’s with her everything’s healthy and great, but when he’s gone, it’s like death. However, I just have one quick note about a description of a scene that I really liked on page 108, “The metal door was propped open; it was dimly lit inside, and the low murmur of many voices and the sound of ice clinking in glasses floated across the street” (Meyer). I loved the word choice of “clinking” and the “low murmur” it really set it off for me, felt like I was there. Can’t wait to see how things turn out…

I'm Uncomfortable

Alright I read another 30 or so pages and I’m just really depressed and feel so freaking uncomfortable. I just feel really awkward reading this now because Bella’s so damn depressed it’s ridiculous. My mood has significantly changed over the past hour…I feel like Bella. While I was reading, I marked multiple different places where things stood out. One short paragraph really captured how depressed Bella was so I think I’ll share that one from page 102 “ The thick haze that blurred my days now was sometimes confusing. I was surprised when I found myself in my room, not clearly remembering the drive home from school or even opening the front door. But that didn’t’ matter. Losing track of time was the most I asked from life.” (Meyer). This quote seems to me that Bella just wants to stop living colorfully…meaning she has no more purpose, no point, no drive to do anything spontaneous anymore. About 4 months has gone by without Edward in her life and she’s a completely different person now. Charlie (her dad) is now noticing it and is clearly fed up. In my eyes, he doesn’t seem like the loud controlling father but there was a scene where he was just lit. He yelled at Bella telling her that he’s fed up with her mono-behavior (I don’t know if that’s a word…like mono-tone but for behavior? Maybe?). it was really shocking to me that he flipped….he would never seem like the kind of person to do that.

Yes

When I read I ended up being pissed…I hadn’t really gotten into the book yet and now I’m just so rattled. Edward I guess is leaving Bella…. yeah just left…. not cool. I think it’s ridiculous and he’s such a baby for wanting to leave. I just stopped reading because I was so irritated with the book. I’ll probably go read more but I just had to stop and take a minute. I’m fuming with frustration and confusion. I can’t really put myself in Bella’s situation right now considering I’ve never been in love or that serious of a relationship but reading the description of how she felt just made me ill. Plus the fact that she was pretty much ran away in the woods and fell asleep made me scared. Everyone was looking for her but I literally felt like her life was ending the way she described it. She spoke of how nothing mattered, she doesn’t know how to feel, it was all a blur the whole scene of when Edward left. I actually think he’s a complete jerk right now I don’t know what is to come but I’m just PISSED if I haven’t said that enough. Before Edward decided to move, it all seemed to be perfect, so it makes me wonder if love does last forever or is it just a game? That’s DEEP. Whatever if it doesn’t get better I’m probably going to become psychotic because it’s such a long book and I would hate for things to end badly…but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Reality? No.

As always, I put myself in Bella’s shoes. This time, I thought about what it would be like living with Charlie and the lifestyle that she lives. It seems to me that almost every night Edward sleeps over at Bella’s with Charlie having no idea. I can’t picture sleeping next to someone every night right now because I always have to have room to move around…sooooo…that wouldn’t work out…but if it were Edward maybe I would make an exception. Or maybe not…? He’s a freakin’ vampire for goodness sake, just having the thought that a murderer is sleeping next to you…and the fact that he is so ridiculously attracted to your blood. On the other hand, I think about how rich the Cullen’s are it just makes me sick. Considering they’ve been around for such a long time, and considering that Carlisle is a doctor, well lets just say CHACHING. Having a boyfriend that just has it all sound too surreal...good looks, read minds, rich, the sweet beautiful presence he brings, and a beautiful family. What’s not to like? I enjoy daydreaming so much of non-realistic things that I think it’s a problem…it’s not like I hate my life and want something different, it’s just that I like to experience things without changing my life. Like, experiencing things without having a huge affect on me or whatever…it may confuse a few, but it all makes sense in the end. I found these while I was reading, just kind stood out!
I really think it’s annoying when Stephenie Meyer brings in a “new character” or like background on what is happening…it’s just like read the first book and you’ll know who it is, it’s just really annoying how it’s always like Emmett, the big bear-like brother whose also a vampire, it’s like we know that already…sooooo…
On page 15, yes this was a while ago, Bella admits to being legitimately bad tempered with Edward, which was a HUGE shock. It never happened, it was really awkward how she did get mad at him for it being her birthday, etc, but I would totally get mad to considering, gosh just everything about my life then being in love with an immortal, knowing that you’ll die someday, COME ON TURN ME INTO A VAMPIRE
(Just overall) Maybe I’m just in a really bad mood right now, or I’m just really pissed off that everyone keeps saying this book is so slow and tedious, but just keep reading! It makes me not want to read at all, I just wish that nobody really said anything about it so I could fully find out for myself.
In conclusion, I really like using my bookmarks. They make me stop and think about what I’m reading and check myself to make sure that I’m thinking critically. It’s really late and I’m freaking tired and I’m pretty sure this is 250 words. Everyone has said that I should just get through the tough parts, just read through them, right now, I don’t know even what they’re talking about. It makes me have so many different thoughts on how the book will turn out. I wonder, will Edward ever turn Bella into a vampire? Will Alice? Does Edward keep Bella a human so she can reproduce? Ok yeah weird thought but I wondered if Bella was to have Edward’s child or something like that, so when Bella dies maybe Edward would still share part of her with the child that will grow. I also wonder why Edward won’t just DO IT…just change her, I get so frustrated. I get butterflies whenever someone says, just wait…because I have NO IDEA WHAT’S TO COME and it just makes me want to read more and more. I hate being busy because I clearly haven’t posted for a while let alone read as much as I would like to, but I find time when I can. During my reading I have made different tabs where I found something really interesting, or confusing, something that stands out, or maybe an enjoyable sentence that I just really liked.

Anotated Bibliography #2

Hopson, Krista. “Majority of parents say they participate in medical decisions about their child”. It’s full of her explanations with the Twilight Saga. As I was looking around the site, I learned a lot. She really gets into her characters. She lets them be them. She says she can’t control them, she has to let them be the strong “defined characters” that they are. I wish I could get that into my writing, create something that powerful to the point where it takes over. On Meyer’s website, for each book in the saga…(what is a “saga” looking that up right now…saga: noun, a narrative telling the adventures of a hero or a family….) ok so for each book in the series, the website has it’s own play lists of songs that have been connected with them. I think that’s really interesting that there has been music chosen for each book already. I like how people can connect the literature to music, reminds me of musicals. Ok I actually really like Meyer. Reading her explications of her writing is just so fun! I wanted to know HOW she came up with the plot, characters, etc. and what drove her to write about a vampire that everyone I know is obsessed with. This one article I read explained it all. Meyer explained the whole root and core of Twilight and how the whole series got started. Reading her explication made me laugh, smile, and think. I thought about how fun it would be to write for a living and loving it. I have so much respect for Meyer, it has opened so many new thoughts for me!

New Moon

I have started to read New Moon by Stephanie Meyer. Yes, it is the second book in the Twilight series. I’m full of excitement to explore more of Edward and the many beauties he has. Many have said that the next books in the series are not as powerful, or deep as Twilight is, but I’m going into this book with an open mind. I think that I would still be in love with Edward no matter what path Stephanie Meyer takes. I just hope that the love that Edward and Bella never fails, what fantasy that would be. I would rather not be typing on about how excited I am, I would really rather be reading so I don’t know if I’m going to make it to the 250 word requirement this time. I liked the way Meyer wrote the summary for New Moon, it’s full of mystery and foreshadow that just makes my heart beat faster! I just don’t know what is to come with their relationship; I just can’t find a good enough word to describe my emotions right now. Mrs. Jarrett, I don’t care what you think about these books but millions are obsessed including myself. Ok well I think I’m going to go read more can’t wait to blog about my next reading…also if you all don’t already know…Twilight the movie comes out next week…. 10 days and counting.

Sarah Palin

Instead of talking about Twilight for my last blog, I thought it would be appropriate to bring up some politics considering next week is a pretty heavy political week. I really am not one to be involved with politics for many reasons. First of all, I cannot participate in any elections therefore I’m not super interested and do not have a strong opinion as of now. I somewhat stay interested considering the winners of the elections will run our country/state and it involves my future, so I should know what’s going on in the world for my own good. I read an article about Sarah Palin and her roll in government. Palin interests me because of her diversity of being a woman running in office. Her family life really interests me too, having a special needs child and a daughter pregnant, she seems like she has her stuff together. How she juggles her family, and office, is one big feat that she has conquered. She gets a lot of publicity, especially for her clothing. When Palin was a governor in Alaska, she had $150,000 worth of clothing and makeup. Those clothes, however, were returned back to the government when she was finished. I thought this was acceptable considering she did not own the clothes and she returned them. I think that it’s ok for her to look presentable and respectable. She does a great job of dressing appropriate for debates and professional event. I don’t know why she gets so much concerning attention for the way she dresses.
http://www.newsweek.com/id/166215

Twilight...yes again.

Twilight has yet to cease my attention. I recently started to read while on an elliptical machine and time FLIES by. I really couldn’t stop reading; it was nice changes to multitask while reading…never really succeed at that before. During this reading I got more and more attracted to Edward. His charm and thoughtfulness really rubbed off on me, and heck, I’m not even in the story! Edward helped Bella to the nurses’ office after fainting during biology. Bella seems like such a stud in her new school. Three guys asked Bella if she would take them to the school dance, even though it’s a girl ask guy dance! I was just so overwhelmed by her popularity, she has only been at the school for a good couple months. After the 2nd boy asked her I was like wow, ok, people really like her but when the 3rd boy asked her, it was a little much. Bella comes off to be really independent. She keeps to herself, and doesn’t really need much from anyone, she can provide for herself. I am noticing that something about her is really special, but I don’t know why or what quite yet. Edward for sure finds something amazing about Bella; he really does make it clear that he is interested in her. All of the other schoolmates notice it too. My sister is already on the 3rd book, it’s been a week, and I don’t know how she has the time to read constantly, I wish I did!

Twilight, Twilight, and more Twilight

Recently, I got my sister to read Twilight. She honestly can’t put it down and I take full pride and responsibility for that…however I shouldn’t considering everyone loves it and everyone tells everyone to read it because EVERYONE is obsessed with it, except Mrs. Jarrett…so far. I wanted to take the time and use this as somewhat of a reflection. If I were to interact with an extremely mysterious man I would be caught off guard. I probably wouldn’t want to be involved with the man whatsoever, but what would drive me to do so just like Bella? Would it be the good looks or obsessive charm that Bella notices Edward has? Would it be his strong features of being a man of serenity? Probably not, because appearance only goes so far. I would have attained my attention to Edward until I met him. The whole scene where Bella sees him clenching his fists was really uncomfortable to me and I don’t think I would have been so interested in what he was about. Sure I would have a somewhat close eye on him from time to time but I don’t think I would be that interested to dream about him and think about him constantly. The whole thing is still a mystery to me; I’m still trying to figure it all out. It’s fun to play around with different thoughts about Edward, yes already knowing that he is a vampire I think what his daily “family” life is like, or the qualities of a vampire? Or what makes Edward clench and have magical life saving powers like when he saved Bella from a move severe accident? Hopefully my questions will soon be answered.

Bella vs. Me

I wanted to take the time to stop and connect my life with Twilight. Currently the main character, Bella, has moved schools due to family complications. Her parents are divorced as she is in high school. They have been divorced for a while, but thinking about having divorced parents would be very hard. I take my parents for granted everyday. My parents together make a great team and support me in really whatever I do. Bella’s dad, being a police man, has a very different parenting style. He doesn’t really know how to be a dad of a teenage girl which is really hard for Bella. Although she doesn’t mind making dinners every night, I think she realizes the she misses living with a mother figure. I don’t know what I would do without my mother; she’s always there for me. It’s easy for my mom and I to talk and just share our thoughts on a daily basis, it helps me be a better person to connect with my mom. I really respect kids who have divorced parents and try to put myself in there shoes to potentially see what they are dealing with. Also, Bella is an only child whom I think makes it even harder. My sister is honestly my best friend and really is always there to talk to and vent to. Not having that type of figure in my life would be so difficult and I can’t imagine how difficult Bella’s life is right now considering she is an only child, has a single parent, and is attending a new school.

Twilight Controversy

During this reading of Twilight, I was hooked. Before I began this book, multiple people told me that Edward Cullen (mysterious man in the novel) was a vampire. Knowing this, it kind of ruined the suspense. So far in the book I have noticed Edward skulking around Bella, main character, at school for a week then he disappeared. His eerie activity keeps sparking my memory of his condition of being a vampire.
Edward and Bella are lab partners in Biology, which makes them have a minor friendship. Edward continuously stares at Bella in the lunchroom, parking lot, and other various places around school. Bella being flattered but confused on why he keeps staring at her, is mesmerized by his great looks. Bella has an unfamiliar feeling about him, however she is extremely attracted to him. Edward returned to school and Bella has a less awkward feeling knowing he has returned to school. Days went by and rain fell, making the streets of Forks icy and dangerous. Bella almost being hit by a car was injured but saved by Edward out of nowhere. Bella knew something wasn’t right about him by the way he saved her. It wasn’t feasible considering the placement of the scene. Edward was a good 20 yards away from her when the car was to collide. This situation makes me feel uneasy about Edward and very confused. However, when Edward and Bella are in biology they have this competitiveness between them and mysteriousness that makes me feel nervous. It’s obvious that they are flirty between each other, and to be honest, it gets my heart pumping. I wonder about what’s to happen and if Bella will ever find out the potentiality of Edward being a vampire.

Twilight Obsession

Have you ever read a book and thought you were watching a movie? I’ve just started to read Twilight by Stephenie Meyer and I feel like this book is reality. Meyer’s descriptive writing, tasteful transitions, and her thoughtful characterization keeps me reading at the edge of my seat. I absolutely love reading a book that I can’t put down; it’s makes reading so much more enjoyable. From the opening paragraph, to the page I’m on now, the writing never gets dull. Meyer knows how to paint a picture of the scene from the very get-go. I like knowing the setting from the start, so my imagination can go from there. The way she describes the littlest things make such a difference while reading. Instead of saying the car smelled old, Meyer describes the car, “the tan upholstered seats still smelled faintly of tobacco, gasoline, and peppermint.” (Meyer, 12). It tests your scents on all levels: you likely could see the car and smell it as your reading. Also, Meyer uses great hooks at the beginning of chapters. She opens chapter 2 with, “The next day was better…and worse.” (Meyer, 29). This made me eager to read, no wonder they call them “hooks” or “attention grabbers” because that’s exactly what they did. That is the kind of reading I love, descriptive, as if I’m right there witnessing it happen. I love a writing style that can keep me captivated. I really can’t get over how excited I’ve been to post about Twilight. Even though I’ve just started, it’s so hard for me to put it down, I can't wait to keep reading! In the posts to come, I hope I can inspire all of you to read Twilight and be as excited as I am!

Afterlife and it's Demanding Thought Process

Over the past few days I couldn’t get the thought of the afterlife out of my head. Throughout each day I was lost in thought on what is to come. Everyone has their own judgment on the afterlife and I have been currently challenging mine. I just finished the quickest read ever, The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. This book got me thinking like I’ve never thought before.
Albom creates this idea of when you exceed your time on Earth; you go to his idea of a heaven where you meet five different people. These five different people have significantly crossed paths with you weather you know it or not. After reading this book it made me think critically of my faith. I am a Christian; I wouldn’t say a strong one, but a believing one. My faith is complicated, but books like Albom’s and Mythology by Edith Hamilton have surely contradicted my faith. This book has continued my thought process by showing me different ideas of the heavens. Albom also had every one of the five people teach a lesson to the victim, Eddie. I like how he threw this method in; each lesson was very important and helped him connect the unfinished puzzle called his life. For example, the main character Eddie was in the war some time before his death. During the war, his leg was injured and has affected him ever since. One of Eddie’s five people he met was his Captain during the war. Eddie was confused on why he was meeting him in his heaven, but it all made sense in the end. During a fire, Eddie thought he saw a little girl beyond the flames. His instinct was to run in and save her, however his Captain shot his leg for him being incapable of doing so. The Captain did this in resistance of Eddie going into the fire because the Captain knew he would never come out alive. The Captain taught him the aspect of sacrifice and why it’s so important in life, “It’s not something to regret. It’s something to aspire to.” (Albom, 93). I wonder if I will ever learn everything I need to know in life and if I will apply it to the best of my ability.
In conclusion, I have learned to not worry about the future just to live in the now. Just like in World History when we learned about the Epic of Gilgamesh: living in the now, not worrying about the afterlife. Don’t waste time when you should be living.

WELCOME!

Welcome to my blog, on this page you will find creative thoughts of mine.
